2017 Zimbabwe Construction and Bore Hole & Orphanage Trips
Spring Hills Baptist Church Helps Africa Community with Scholarships for Orphans and Water Well Construction
Several teams of 13 adults and 12 teens from Spring Hills Baptist Church flew into and worked out of the capital city, Harare, Zimbabwe, from late February to early April, 2017, on a mission to establish water wells, help build a vocational facility, and give educational opportunities to orphans in the community. The team ventured into several regions out of the capital including Norton, Epworth, and Munduro, and attended and supported two evangelical churches in the lower income area.
As part of this mission, the Zimbabwe 2017 Team visited orphanges Shungu Dzevana, Techakunda, and Goramunzi where they distributed 300 new backpacks with supplies including toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, snacks, toys, and towels. Additionally, 32 children in the Shungu Dzeyaha orphanage received a full year of schooling, materials, and uniforms thanks to the generosity of the Spring Hills church congregation.
In partnership with Bobby Tucker and Living Water of Ohio, the team facilitated the drilling of two new water wells and repaired several pre-existing other wells. The team also furthered the construction of a new vocational training center for orphan graduates in the rural community of Norton. Students attending this training center will stay at the center for up to six months and learn trade skills such as welding, carpentry, electrical work and masonry before moving on to live independently in the job market.
Spring Hills has sponsored four mission trips to Zimbabwe and also sends teams to the Philippines under the leadership of Pastor Gary Kirkpatrick, our Pastor of Children & Missions.
Trips such as the one to Zimbabwe are reflective of the vision and mission of Spring Hills Baptist Church--“Building Generations for Jesus Christ” and “Love, Live, Lead Like Jesus.” Spring Hills Baptist Church was established in 1989 under the leadership of Pastor Jeff Pound, and his son, Tom Pound, whom has been serving as pastor since January, 2012. “It is a great privilege to see God at work in Zimbabwe and we are excited to be a part of meeting both physical and spiritual needs. We have helped to provide safe, clean drinking water to more than 10,000 people as well as providing educational opportunities for orphans,” Pastor Tom Pound notes. Spring Hills has campuses in Granville and Utica, Ohio, and livestreams its services at springhillschurch.org.
